Dr. Damon Petty is a nationally recognized leader in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine, with over 25 years of experience delivering elite-level care to professional athletes and active individuals alike. A Harvard University graduate (bachelor’s degree with honors) and University of Virginia School of Medicine alumnus, Dr. Petty completed his orthopaedic residency at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic and honed his expertise through a highly selective Sports Medicine Fellowship under legendary surgeons Drs. James R. Andrews and William Clancy in Birmingham, Alabama.

Renowned for his advanced techniques in minimally invasive shoulder surgery and ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction, Dr. Petty has published influential research in the American Journal of Sports Medicine on elbow and shoulder injuries in throwing athletes—work that continues to guide treatment for elite performers.

As the trusted team physician for the Tennessee Titans (NFL) and Tennessee State University, Dr. Petty brings championship-caliber care to the sidelines. His experience spans professional and collegiate sports, including past roles with the Nashville Sounds (MiLB, through their Pittsburgh Pirates affiliation), Nashville Metros Soccer, Cumberland University, Trevecca Nazarene University, and the Tennessee Diamonds Fastpitch Softball.

Clinical Focus and Expertise
Dr. Petty focuses on knee, shoulder, elbow, and hip injuries using minimally invasive techniques and modern implants. He performs ACL reconstruction and revision ACL procedures, shoulder instability and labral repair, rotator cuff repair, UCL reconstruction for throwers with internal bracing when indicated, and select hip arthroscopy. He is also experienced with complex revision cases.
Collaboration and Teams
Care for athletes is a team effort. Dr. Petty works closely with athletic trainers, physical therapists, and strength coaches to align surgery, biologic care, and rehab with return-to-play goals.
Affiliations include the Tennessee Titans and Tennessee State University, with prior work supporting collegiate and community programs.
